Hiram B. Yeager was born in Pottstown, Montgomery County, Pennsylvania, around 1818. Previously working as a hatter, Yeager enlisted in the army at the onset of the Mexican War, joining Company A of the Corps of Engineers in Philadelphia on 1846 August 2.
